For months, forty-five-year-old Sunita felt as though she were
walking through heavy mud. She was not just sad; she felt completely
empty and constantly exhausted. She stopped sleeping through the night.
The things that used to bring her joy—like cooking her favourite recipes
or chatting at family gatherings—suddenly felt like impossible
chores.

The heaviest part of her struggle was the quiet, cruel voice in her
head constantly whispering, *"I am a burden to everyone."*
Because mothers and wives are so often taught that they must be the
strong, selfless centre of the household, Sunita told no one. She
swallowed her tears, terrified that her family would think she was weak
or lazy.

The turning point came when her daughter noticed the physical reality
of her mother's pain. She saw the deep fatigue, the sudden tearfulness,
and the withdrawal. Instead of telling Sunita to "just cheer up" or
"pray more," her daughter gently suggested they visit a doctor.

At the clinic, a psychiatrist listened and gave her silent suffering
a name: moderate clinical depression. The doctor explained a crucial,
life-changing fact to Sunita: depression is an incredibly common medical
condition, and it is highly treatable. It is not a character flaw.

Healing did not happen overnight, but it happened through a clear,
practical plan:

-

>

**The Biological:** Sunita started a prescribed
antidepressant to help stabilise her brain chemistry and restore her
sleep.

-

>

**The Psychological:** She attended weekly therapy
sessions to learn how to challenge the false, heavy thoughts telling her
she was a burden.

-

>

**The Behavioural:** She began taking short, simple
daily walks with her daughter to gently wake up her physical body and
reconnect with the outside world.

Over several weeks, the heavy fog slowly lifted. Her energy returned,
and the dark thoughts faded.

**The Core Lesson** The most profound part of Sunita's
recovery was the change in how she viewed herself. For months, she had
been torturing herself with the belief that she was failing her family.
In the end, she realised the truth: she was not a bad mother, and she
was never weak. She had simply been fighting a severe illness in the
dark, and all she needed was the right medicine and the right support to
find the light again.
